El Super Hobby formed in Guadalajara in the 1980s with Alejandro Ochoa on vocals and guitar, Víctor Navarro on bass, and Juan Carlos Torres on drums. Their debut album came out in 1987 and included the song "Me Acostumbre," which became one of their best-known tracks.
They put out several albums through the 1990s, including De Fiesta in 1990 and Se Me Olvidó in 1995. Other songs like "Chica Brasileña" and "Paraíso" also found an audience. The band's sound drew from Mexican traditions alongside rock and pop elements.
El Super Hobby released a live album in 2005. Their music has remained popular in Mexico, with songs that often deal with love and everyday experiences.
