El Ultimo De La Fila

El Último de la Fila formed in Barcelona in 1983 around singer-songwriters Manolo García and Quimi Portet. Their music drew from Spanish folk and flamenco alongside rock influences, creating a sound that felt both grounded and expansive. Songs like 'Como Un Burro Amarrado A La Puerta Del Baile' and 'Lápiz Y Tinta' showed García's literary approach to lyrics, often weaving everyday imagery into something more resonant.

They released several albums in the late 1980s and early 1990s, including 'La Mandrágora' in 1985 and 'Nuevo Pequeño Catecismo' in 1991. The band's lineup included drummer Antonio Fidel, bassist Armand Sabater, and keyboard player Miguel Ángel Blanca.

El Último de la Fila collaborated with artists like Joaquín Sabina and Paco de Lucía, though their core remained García and Portet's partnership. They never aimed for broad commercial polish, instead building a catalog that felt specific to its moment and place. Tracks such as 'Cosas Que Pasan' and 'Canta Por Mí' hold up because they avoid grand statements, settling into quieter, more durable shapes.
