The original lineup included Jonga on guitar and vocals, Florisvaldo Mattos on keyboards, Léo Macedo on bass, and Renato Bras on drums.
Their biggest hit came in 1986 with "Funky Night," a track that became a dance floor staple across Brazil. They released several albums in the mid-1980s, including "A Festa é Nossa" in 1984, "Funk Brasil" in 1985, and "América do Sul" in 1986.
Early on, some critics dismissed their straightforward lyrics and accessible funk style as too commercial, but the group maintained a steady following. Their music blended funk with Brazilian rhythms, anchored by that persistent four-piece lineup.
