Elemento Sombrio formed in São Paulo in 1994 with brothers Fernando and Marcelo Cassola on vocals and guitar, Sandro Mederi on bass, and Alessandro David on drums. They built a following through local gigs before releasing their debut album 'In Tenebris Lux' in 2000. Fernando Cassola has been the only constant member through various lineup changes over time.
Their 2004 album 'Às Vezes' gave them wider recognition, with the title track becoming a staple on Brazilian rock radio. Songs like 'Paranoico' and 'Auto Excluído' from their catalog show their blend of heavy riffs and melodic elements. They've worked with musicians like Edu Falaschi and André Matos on various projects.
The band has faced some public challenges, including plagiarism accusations in 2006 and a legal incident involving Fernando Cassola in 2014. They've continued releasing music through these periods, putting out albums like 'Renascer das Cinzas' in 2014 and 'XIII' in 2018.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
