Archive material and source history
Elenco Colegial formed in 1995 as a group of high school students in Rio de Janeiro, with Leonardo do Nascimento e Silva, Eduardo Augusto Bezerra, and Adriano Lopes. They started playing local parties and school events, mixing funk with hip-hop and soul at a time when funk carioca wasn't widely accepted. Their debut album 'A Gente Faz a Festa' came out in 1997 and included the track 'Eu Arraso Bem Mais,' which got heavy radio play and became something of an anthem.
They followed that with albums like 'Empresários de Funk' in 1998, 'Funk You' in 1999, and 'A Verdadeira Mão Negra' in 2000. Songs like 'Só Quer Brincar,' 'Me Deixa em Paz,' and 'Vem Sambar Comigo' kept them popular through the late 1990s and early 2000s. Another track, 'Telefone,' also became part of their set.
