Elenco de Luxo

Elenco de Luxo formed in Rio de Janeiro around 1980, with Celso Blues Boy on vocals and guitar and João Penca on keyboards. Their music pulled from samba, rock, and reggae, and their lyrics often touched on social issues. In 1986, they released the album 'Magia Branca,' which included the song 'Heroi.' That track became their most recognizable work, a ballad about an ordinary person facing hardship that connected with listeners during Brazil's difficult political and economic period. They also recorded 'Me Deixem Só.'

Their straightforward approach to songwriting and their blend of styles gave them a particular sound, but they weren't without friction. Some of their political commentary drew criticism, and there were questions about the origins of 'Heroi,' with claims it was inspired by another artist's earlier work. The band's lineup included other musicians like Zé Eduardo on drums and Tico Santa Cruz on bass at various points.
