Eli Teixeira

Eli Teixeira came up in Itambé, Bahia, a small town where he grew up hearing samba and axé. He started writing songs that drew from those Brazilian rhythms, and from artists like Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso. In 2019, he released 'Rola Uma Lágrima,' a song that caught on nationally with its straightforward melody and direct lyrics about heartache.

That song became his most recognizable work. He followed it with other singles like 'Amor de Verdade' in 2020 and 'Coração Teimoso' in 2022. Some of his lyrics, particularly in a song called 'Me Chame de Gatinha,' drew criticism for how they portrayed women. Teixeira said those songs were just reflections of his own experiences, not meant to be taken as statements.
