Elias Cardan formed in 1999 when songwriter Eduardo E. Cardan and musician Luiz C. Elias came together around experimental sounds and unconventional themes. Their 2002 single "Baile dos Insetos" became their breakthrough track, with its strange lyrics about an insect dance finding an audience despite its dark tone.
Their debut album "O Reino do Inverso" came out that same year, establishing their insect-themed sound. They followed it with "A Dança dos Mortos" in 2005, a concept album about mortality, and "O Livro dos Sonhos" in 2010, which took a more dreamlike approach.
Other songs like "Sono," "Bluengel," "De Repente," and "Meu Silêncio" show the range of their work, from unsettling to quietly introspective. Their music has drawn criticism for being too dark at times, but they've generally kept to their own style without much compromise.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
