Elias Trindade is a singer-songwriter from Juazeiro do Norte in northeastern Brazil. He started writing songs as a teenager, drawing on the traditional sounds of his region and the work of Brazilian poets. In 2015, he put out his first album, simply titled 'Elias,' which included the track 'Travoso.'
That debut record got a lot of attention from critics. 'Travoso' became a kind of signature song for him, with its spare, emotional feel. The album dealt with love and loss in a way that felt direct and unadorned.
Some of his music has touched on social issues, which has led to debate. He's written about prejudice and poverty, and those subjects have made him a complicated figure for some listeners. He hasn't shied away from that, even when it's drawn criticism.
His other songs include '9 Meses' and 'Alegria da Gente.' He followed that first album with another called 'Manual de S.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
