Eliene Barros

Eliane Barros was born in Salvador, Brazil in 1978. She started singing in her church choir as a teenager and put out her first solo album in 1995. Her voice found an audience in Brazilian gospel circles, and she kept recording through the late 1990s and 2000s.

Her 2008 album included the song 'Nome dos Nomes,' which became a worship staple. Other tracks like 'Oração' and 'Águas' also circulated widely. Her music is straightforward gospel, built around her clear, strong vocals.

In 2004, her performance at a pop festival in Salvador drew criticism from some who felt it strayed from strictly Christian events. She continued recording regardless. By the late 2000s, she had released around a dozen albums.
