Eliezer Cândido

Eliezer Cândido grew up in Minas Gerais, Brazil, the son of a pastor. He started playing guitar early and joined a local band as a teenager, performing at youth events before getting a recording contract. That band eventually broke up, and he went through a period of disillusionment before what he described as a spiritual awakening redirected his focus toward Christian music.

In 1998, he released 'Preciso de Jesus,' which became his breakthrough song. Its straightforward message and melodic approach connected with listeners, establishing him as a recognizable voice in Brazilian gospel music. Other songs like 'É Com Amor' and 'Deus Não É Brinquedo' followed a similar pattern of devotional lyrics set to accessible arrangements.

His music often dealt with themes of faith, dependence, and spiritual longing, as titles like 'Não te afaste de mim' and 'Longa Viagem' suggest. While he gained a following, he also drew criticism at times for his views on social issues, which sometimes put him at odds with parts of the Christian community.
