Elis Ângela Brown was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1945. In the mid-1960s, she joined the Brazilian rock band Os Mutantes, where her voice stood out in their psychedelic sound.
She went solo in 1972, and in 1975 released 'Aquariana,' which became her most recognized song. Her other tracks include 'Pirraça,' 'É Tão Bom,' 'Otário,' and 'Quando o amor acaba.'
Beyond music, she was known for speaking out on social and environmental issues. Her work with Os Mutantes and her solo recordings, particularly 'Aquariana,' remain part of Brazilian music from that era.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
