Elisa (BR) formed in Brazil in the late 1990s, led by vocalist and composer Elisa Lucinda. Their music mixed Brazilian folk with jazz and electronic touches, which some listeners found unconventional at the time. Their lyrics tended toward the introspective and poetic, dealing with love, loss, and the mess of being human.

In 2000, the single "Floriza" brought them wider attention. The song's haunting melody and Lucinda's vocals connected with people, even as some critics called the band's style theatrical or pretentious. They kept working, and their sound kept shifting across albums like "Assim Que a Noite Vier" (2000) and "Pís" (2003).

Other songs like "Helicópteros" and "O Quarto Dos Fantasmas" show the band's range, from more structured pieces to looser, atmospheric tracks. The lineup changed over time, but Lucinda remained at the center. They put out records steadily into the 2010s, including "A Fábula" (2006) and "Sutil" (2013), without ever settling into one predictable sound.
