Elizabete Santos grew up in the coastal town of Nazaré, Portugal, where she began singing for family and friends. She released her debut album 'Raízes' in 1993, drawing on Portuguese musical traditions. Her 1996 single 'Dono do Mar' became her most recognizable song, reaching listeners well beyond Portugal.

Her music often explores themes of faith and connection, with songs like 'O Alerta de Deus' and 'É Pra Glória de Deus' reflecting this focus. She has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House, typically accompanied by musicians including her husband Pedro Jóia on guitar.
