Elizabeth Mitchell began performing as a solo artist around 2006, releasing a self-titled debut album. A few years later, she formed Elizabeth and the Catapult with cellist Mark Kilian and percussionist Brian Larsen. Their first album together, 'The Other Side of Zero,' came out in 2010 and mixed folk with chamber pop.
Songs like 'Happy Pop' and 'Perfectly Perfect' show the band's lighter side, with melodies that feel both playful and carefully arranged. They followed that album with 'Taller Children' in 2013 and 'Whimsical Baroque' in 2016, each record building on their blend of acoustic instruments and Mitchell's clear, thoughtful vocals.
Mitchell writes the songs and sings, while Kilian's cello lines and Larsen's percussion give the music its textured, sometimes baroque quality. They've kept at it without much fanfare, making music that feels personal and a little off the beaten path.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
