Ellery Prescott formed in the early 2000s, with Anya Prescott on vocals and Wren Pierce on guitar. Their debut album 'Nocturnal' came out in 2003 and included the song 'Don't Say,' which became their breakout single. The band's sound leaned toward dark, atmospheric arrangements, with Anya's classically trained piano background and Wren's distorted guitar work.

In 2005, the band faced plagiarism accusations regarding 'Don't Say,' though they denied the claims. Anya's reserved public presence and the group's general avoidance of typical promotion led to some criticism about being aloof, though others saw it as artistic choice. They kept recording through the 2000s and 2010s, with songs like 'I Trust Life' and 'Mr. Vulnerable' appearing in their catalog.
