Elli Et Jacno

Elli Medeiros and Jacques Duvall, who performed as Elli & Jacno, met at a punk concert in Paris in 1977. They started making music together that drew from new wave and electro-pop, with some of the atmospheric quality of artists like Roxy Music or David Bowie. Their first single, "Main dans la main," came out in 1978 and got attention for its direct lyrics.

They put out four albums between 1979 and 1982, moving from a rougher early sound to something more polished. The last of those was "Les Tarots," which included the track of the same name. That song, with its steady bassline and Elli's detached vocal, became what most people remember them for.

The duo split up in 1983. Elli went into acting, and Jacno kept working with electronic music on his own.
