Elonio Barboza was a Brazilian singer and guitarist who recorded his debut album in 1989. That self-titled record included 'Quando Eu Oro,' a song he wrote that became his most recognized work. He was known for drawing from samba and MPB traditions in his music.
He released several albums over the following years, including 'Nação do Samba' in 1992 and 'O Samba da Minha Terra' in 1995. His lyrics often addressed social themes, which sometimes brought criticism alongside his popularity.
Barboza worked with musicians like Chico Buarque and Ivete Sangalo at different points. He performed with a regular backing band that included Anderson Luis on bass, André Rodrigues on drums, Carlos Alberto on guitar, and Marcos Antônio on keyboard.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
