The Electric Light Orchestra, or ELO, formed around Jeff Lynne, who wrote most of their material and sang lead. Their sound was built on layered strings and keyboards, with songs like 'Ao Infinito e Além' showing their taste for grand, melodic arrangements. The band's lineup shifted often in the early years, with Roy Wood playing cello and guitar before leaving in 1974.

ELO released a string of albums through the 1970s, including 'Eldorado,' 'A New World Record,' and the double album 'Out of the Blue.' Their productions were elaborate, which sometimes led to financial strain. They kept working into the 1980s with albums like 'Time' and 'Balance of Power,' and Jeff Lynne revived the name for 'Zoom' in 2001.
