Elvis E Marsal formed in Salvador, Bahia in the late 1980s, with vocalist Elvis Silva, guitarist Marsal, bassist Sergio Cury, drummer Xandão, and keyboardist Dezinho. Their sound mixed Brazilian rhythms with funk, rock, and reggae. In 1995, their single "O Bicho Vai Pegar" became a breakthrough hit, topping charts and serving as an anthem for the Axé movement.
After Elvis Silva left in 1997 to pursue solo work, the band continued with Marsal, Cury, Xandão, Dezinho, and later vocalist Tatau. They released albums like "Segura Nega" in 1996 and "Axé de Verdade" in 2000. Songs such as "Acabou O Jogo" and "Deixe Seu Coração Falar" maintained their presence in Brazilian music.
Their lyrics sometimes addressed social issues, with "Não Tem Mais Pra Ninguém" criticizing corruption and inequality in Brazil, which sparked some debate. The band toured internationally, helping spread Axé music beyond Brazil. They received several Troféu Dodô e Osmar awards, a recognition within the Axé genre.
