Elvis Perkins was born in New York City in 1976. His father was actor Anthony Perkins, known for playing Norman Bates in Psycho, and his mother was photographer and actress Berry Berenson, who died in the 9/11 attacks.
He released his debut album Ash Wednesday in 2007, which included the track Send My Fond Regards To Lonelyville. The album received attention for its introspective lyrics and Perkins' vocal delivery.
In 2010, Perkins was arrested for cocaine possession and driving under the influence. That same year he released Elvis Perkins in Dearland, followed by I Aubade in 2015 and A Brief History of the Alphabet in 2018. His songs include 123 Goodbye, All the Night Without Love, and Chains, Chains, Chains.
