Archive material and source history

The Emotions were sisters Sheila, Wanda, and Jeanette Hutchinson from Chicago, who started singing together in 1969. Their mother Lillian helped guide the group early on. They signed with Stax Records in 1976 and put out their first album, 'Rejoice,' which had the single 'Show Me.'

A year later, their self-titled album 'Emotions' came out and included 'Best of My Love.' That song became their signature track, a ballad about finding comfort when things are hard. The album also had 'Don't Ask My Neighbors' and 'Blind Alley.'

They kept recording through the late 1970s with albums like 'Sunbeam' and 'Come into Our World.' Other songs people remember include 'Flowers' and 'What Do The Lonely Do At Christmas.'
