Empatic formed in the early 1980s around singer and songwriter Peter Vale. Their debut album in 1982 featured 'Enola Gay,' a song Vale wrote about the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. That track became an international hit and brought the band recognition.
Their music had a haunting, atmospheric quality, with lyrics that often dealt with war and loss. They released two more albums, 'The Shadow Embers' in 1984 and 'The Bitter Ashes' in 1986, before disappearing from the scene.
The band stuck by the song regardless.
