Employed To Serve formed in Woking, England in 2012 with vocalist Justine Jones, guitarist Sammy Urwin, bassist Aidan Phillips, and drummer Robbie Hayes. Their early sound was raw enough that they had to self-release material before finding a label that would take them on. They put out their first album 'Greyer Than You Remember' in 2015.
By 2018's 'The Warmth of a Dying Sun,' they'd begun weaving more melody into their aggressive approach. The 2020 album 'Eternal Forward Motion,' which shares its name with one of their notable songs, dealt with themes of anxiety and depression. Tracks like 'Force Fed' and 'Harsh Truth' show their blend of crushing riffs and direct lyrical confrontation.
They've built a following through intense live shows and a sound that doesn't soften its edges. Justine Jones has described their music as a cathartic outlet, which comes through in songs like 'Beneath It All' and 'Dull Ache Behind My Eyes.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
