Entsetzlich

Entsetzlich formed in Austria in 2006, a black metal band whose name translates to something like 'horrible' or 'dreadful.' Their early work came out of that scene, with a debut album called 'Curse The Abyss' arriving in 2010. Songs like 'Curse The Abyss Part II' and 'To Walk The Bleak Forest (In Search Of Death)' give a sense of their sound, atmospheric, with long titles and a commitment to a certain bleak aesthetic.

They followed that debut with 'The Serpent's Tongue' in 2013 and 'Ashes of the Damned' in 2016. Their catalog includes a cover of 'House At The Field' by the band Coldhand, and tracks like 'Mørke' which lean into dark, melodic textures. The music is what you'd expect from a band operating in this space: heavy, often slow-building, with growled vocals and a persistent mood.

Their lineup has included members using the pseudonyms Asmodeus on vocals, Beelzebub on guitar, and Mephistopheles on drums. They've maintained a fairly consistent presence in underground metal circles, putting out records every few years without much mainstream notice, which is probably how they prefer it.
