Enya

Enya was born Eithne Ní Bhraonáin in Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland in 1961. She grew up in a musical household where traditional Celtic music was part of daily life. In 1980, she joined the family band Clannad as a backing vocalist, contributing to their sound on tracks like 'Theme from Harry's Game.'

Her solo career began in earnest with the 1988 album 'Watermark,' which established her distinctive approach, layered vocals, Celtic motifs, and ambient textures. That album's success led to others like 'Shepherd Moons' in 1991 and 'A Day Without Rain' in 2000. Songs such as 'Anywhere Is,' 'May It Be,' and 'Evening Falls' became familiar through films, commercials, and quiet moments in households around the world.

Enya works closely with producer Nicky Ryan and lyricist Roma Ryan, a partnership that has defined her studio process. She maintains a private public life, which has sometimes drawn comment, but her music, recorded in her home studio in Ireland, continues to reach listeners without much touring or promotion. Her 2015 album 'Dark Sky Island' showed she hadn't abandoned the sound that first connected with people decades earlier.
