Equador formed in the early 2010s with Chris Smith on vocals and guitar, Alex Biggs on guitar, and Jack Tattersall on bass. They started playing shows in small venues around the UK, working with a post-punk and indie sound that felt raw and direct. Their debut album came out in 2017, anchored by the track "Bones of Man," which caught some attention for its emotional weight and spare arrangement.
After that first album, they put out two more records: "North" in 2019 and "Dream Web" in 2022. Those later releases brought in more electronic textures and atmospheric touches, but kept the band's core trio intact. They've mostly avoided lineup changes, with Smith handling lyrics and fronting the group, Biggs on guitar, and Tattersall on bass.
In 2021, another band accused Equador of plagiarism. Equador denied it, saying their work was original. The dispute didn't seem to slow them down much, they released "Dream Web" the following year.
