Equilibrium formed in Germany in 2001, with early members including Andreas Völkl on vocals, René Berthiaume and Dominik Creyaufmüller on guitars, Sandra Völkl on bass, and Manuel DiCamillo on drums. They started playing what got called folk metal, mixing traditional melodies with heavy guitar work. Berthiaume left in 2007, and Martin Preuss joined on guitar not long after.
They've put out six studio albums, from 2005's Turis Fratyr to 2019's Renegades. A track like "A Favor do Vento (Version)" from the 2016 album Armageddon shows their approach, with Portuguese lyrics over driving rhythms. Other songs in their catalog include "Apenas Um Ponto" and "Menino Mal."
In 2010, some listeners raised questions about imagery and themes in their work, suggesting connections to far-right politics. The band responded that their focus was on German folklore and mythology, not extremist views. They kept recording and touring after that.
