Eric Idle was born in 1943 and first became known as part of the comedy group Monty Python. In 1978, he started a band called Eric Idle's Rutland Weekend Television, or RIWTV. Their first single was "All Over Now," which did well on the UK charts. The band put out a few albums in the late 1970s and early 1980s, like Rutland Weekend Television in 1976 and The Rutland Dirty Weekend the next year.
RIWTV had a changing group of musicians, including Neil Innes and John Halsey. They mixed rock and pop with comedy, and Idle wrote songs like "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life" and "Back To Where I Was." After the band ended, Idle kept working in television and film, including on the show Fawlty Towers.
