Ervino e Maciell

Ervino Botelho and Maciel Pereira met as teenagers in São Paulo. They shared a deep faith in Brazil's patron saint, the Virgin of Aparecida, which became central to their music. Their song 'Devoto de Aparecida' was a straightforward expression of that devotion, connecting with listeners who recognized the same feelings.

Their sound drew from traditional Brazilian genres like sertanejo, samba, and forró. Tracks such as 'A Bruxa Tá Solta' and 'Casinha de Madeira' had a plain, rhythmic quality that felt familiar. They weren't trying to reinvent anything, just play the music they knew.

They released albums like 'Invocação de Nossa Senhora' in 1997 and 'Milagres de Fé' in 1999. A 2005 live recording came from the Aparecida Sanctuary, a natural setting for their material. Their lyrics sometimes drew criticism for being too explicitly religious, but they kept singing what they believed.

Their music stayed grounded in those early influences and that consistent faith. It was less about creating a legacy and more about making songs people could use in their own lives, like 'Dom de Cantar' or 'É Disso Que Eu Gosto'.
