E.S.G.

E.S.G. was a Philadelphia soul and funk group formed by three brothers in the early 1970s. William "Poogie" Hart sang lead, Eugene "Geno" Hart played guitar, and Melvin "Rudy" Hart was the drummer. Their debut album 'Get Down with E.S.G.' came out in 1977 and included the track 'What You See,' which became one of their better-known songs.

They recorded other albums like 'Feeling Good' and 'The Way We Do It,' and played live shows including a documented performance in New York. The group's sound had a straightforward soul and funk base, with some later material touching on disco and hip-hop influences.

E.S.G. worked through the usual small-club circuit early on. They kept recording and performing for years, putting out songs like 'Moody' and 'All American Gangsta' that stayed in rotation with fans of that era's Philadelphia sound. The three brothers remained the consistent core of the group throughout their active period.
