Eskorbuto

Eskorbuto formed in 1980 in Santurtzi, a town in the Basque Country. The band's name means "scurvy," which gives you a sense of their attitude from the start. Their early sound took cues from punk acts like The Ramones and The Clash, but they quickly developed their own rougher, more confrontational style.

Their 1985 album "Historia Triste" became a touchstone for Spanish punk. The title track, along with songs like "Mucha policía, poca diversión" and "Cerebros Destruidos," captured a specific kind of anger and disillusionment that resonated with listeners. The lyrics were blunt and often provocative, which led to regular clashes with authorities and censors.

Eskorbuto's lineup included Juanma Suárez on vocals, Iosu Expósito on guitar, Pako Galán on bass, and Jualma on drums. They recorded several albums throughout the 80s and early 90s, maintaining a raw, unpolished sound that felt more like a direct statement than a polished product. Their music wasn't about subtlety; it was a loud, messy reaction to the world around them.
