Esli Tolentino grew up in Maricá, Rio de Janeiro, where she heard samba, bossa nova, and indigenous rhythms around the house. She started playing local bars and clubs in the early 2000s, and put out her first album, 'Sementes do Amanhã,' in 2007.
Her song 'Águas Cristalinas' came out in 2010 and became her most recognized work. The track addresses environmental concerns, which connected with listeners who shared those worries.
Tolentino has been vocal about social justice issues in her music and public statements. That directness has sometimes drawn attention beyond just the songs themselves.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
