Esperanza de Vida formed in Puerto Rico in 1994, led by singer and songwriter Edgar Rivera. The band's name translates to 'Hope of Life,' which gives a sense of their focus on Christian music. They released their first album in 1995, followed by others like 'Precioso Jesús' in 1997 and 'Gloria a Dios' in 2000.
Their song 'Precioso Jesús' became particularly well-known, along with tracks like 'Me Rindo Ante Ti' and 'Mi Fortaleza.' The band includes Edgar Rivera on lead vocals, with Wilfredo Rivera on bass, Jaime Rivera on drums, and Johnny Rivera on guitar, all contributing vocals.
In the early 2000s, Esperanza de Vida faced some criticism from religious circles for blending contemporary pop sounds into their worship music. They kept making music that aimed to be accessible, releasing albums such as 'Al Rey, La Gloria' in 2002 and 'Unidos para Adorar' in 2005.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
