Estação Fandangueira formed in Porto Alegre in 1994, drawing from the fandango traditions of Rio Grande do Sul. The group included Rogério Villaça on vocals and guitar, Fabrício Silveira on accordion, Alessandro Bastos on percussion, and João de Almeida Neto on bass. Their early work like the 1998 album "Noite Campeira" helped bring these regional sounds to a broader Brazilian audience.
Their music centers on the accordion melodies and percussive grooves of fandango, with Villaça's vocals giving it a contemporary feel. Songs such as "Sou Refém" and "Convite Perfeito" show how they kept the rhythmic drive of the tradition while making it accessible.
They've continued recording, with later albums like "Fandango de Raiz" in 2014 and a compilation called "Antologia" in 2019. The band's focus has remained on playing and recording this style of music from southern Brazil.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
