Estado Crítico formed in Fortaleza, Brazil in 1985 with Guto Goffi on vocals, Hélio Rocha on guitar, Cláudio Rabeca on drums, and Ednardo Holanda on bass. Their first album came out in 1987 and included the song "25 de Dezembro." They put out several more records through the 1990s, like 1989's "Cidadão Comum" and 1995's "Quarto Crescente." The band also released an acoustic live album in 1997.
Their music often dealt with social themes, and some of their lyrics drew criticism from conservative groups in Brazil at the time. Songs like "Destruição da Terra" and "Humanidade Subversiva" reflect that focus. They kept playing and recording through those years, building a following in their home region and beyond.
