Archive material and source history

Esther Ofarim was born Esther Zaied in Safed, then part of British Mandate Palestine, in 1941. Her family moved to Switzerland when she was young, and she began singing there. In the mid-1960s, she had a breakthrough with the song 'Cinderella Rockefella,' which topped charts in Europe. Her version of the Yiddish song 'Oyfn Pripetchik' also became widely known.

She performed at events like the Eurovision Song Contest and the Monterey Pop Festival during the 1960s and 1970s. Her outspoken political views, particularly regarding Israel, drew attention alongside her music. She recorded over 30 albums, including 'Esther Ofarim' in 1967 and 'Twenty-Four Hours of Sunshine' in 1969.

Her recordings include songs like 'Aba Heidschi Bum Beidschi,' 'Parlez-moi D'amour,' and 'A Taste of Honey.' She worked with musicians including her former husband Abi Ofarim and guitarist Gil Dor.
