Estilo JS came together in Salvador, Bahia in the early 2000s, originally as a quartet of accordionists who were all related: Junior, Serginho, Neto, and Renatinho Sanfoneiro. They played forró, a northeastern Brazilian dance music, and their first single 'Sério Filho?' caught on quickly in 2005. The song's suggestive lyrics drew some criticism, but it established their presence.
Their sound gradually incorporated other Brazilian styles like arrocha and samba. They put out albums steadily through the late 2000s, including 'Se Jogou no Povo' and 'Do Forró ao Arrocha'. Other tracks like 'Tem Que Ter Discernimento' and 'Usa-me, Senhor' became part of their set. Around 2009, a dispute over unpaid royalties led to a legal fight that paused their work for a time.
They kept recording after that, marking a decade together with the 2015 album '10 Anos de Forró'. The group's music stayed rooted in the accordion-driven rhythms of forró, even as it picked up other influences from the region.
