Eugenijus Ostapenko

Eugenijus Ostapenko was born in Vilnius in 1959 and studied at the Vilnius Music Academy. He released his first album, "Mažasis Princas," in 1984. The song "Atostogaut" from that album became widely known, though some listeners at the time thought its lyrics carried political meaning. That interpretation created some tension with authorities in Soviet Lithuania.

He put out albums like "Laisvė," "Meilės Dainos," and "Atgimimo Dainos." His music reached listeners outside Lithuania, and he performed in various cities abroad. The specifics of those performances and any arrests mentioned in older biographies are hard to pin down now, but the basic outline of a singer working through a complicated period seems to hold.
