Eugênio Britto was born in Salvador, Bahia in 1958, where he grew up hearing the samba, forró, and axé music of Northeast Brazil. In the late 1970s, he joined the band Novos Baianos, playing with them until they broke up around 1981. After that, he started making music on his own.
One of his best-known songs is "Invenção da Flauta" from 1984, which translates to "The Invention of the Flute." Other tracks like "Aprendiz" and "Desconcerto" show his interest in poetic lyrics and blending different sounds. He writes about ordinary things, love, confusion, everyday life, without making them sound grandiose.
His music pulls from Brazilian traditions but doesn't stick to any one style. It's not showy or overly complicated, just thoughtful and quietly inventive. He's kept working since the 1980s, putting out songs that feel grounded rather than trying to be anthems.
