Evan McHugh was the frontman for the folk-rock band It's a Beautiful Day, which formed in 1967 with David LaFlamme on guitar, Hal Wagenet on bass, and Val Fuentes on drums. The band's name came from a line in an Allen Ginsberg poem. Their self-titled debut album arrived in 1969, featuring the single "White Bird" that became their most recognizable track.
McHugh's vocals helped define the band's sound through albums like "Marrying Maiden" in 1970 and "Choice Quality Stuff... Anytime" in 1971. The group disbanded in 1976 but reformed in the 1980s with McHugh and LaFlamme, releasing new material and touring again.
