Evelyn Champagne King

Evelyn Champagne King was born in Philadelphia in 1960. She signed with RCA Records in 1978 and released her debut album 'Smooth Talk' that same year. The album's single 'Shame' became a top-five R&B hit, establishing her early in her career.

In 1981, she began working with producer Kashif. Their collaboration produced several R&B classics including 'Betcha She Don't Love You' and 'Love Come Down', which became one of her most recognizable songs. These tracks from the early 1980s represent her most commercially successful period.

Her career faced challenges in the mid-1980s, including a plagiarism accusation over her song 'Flirt' and personal struggles. Despite these difficulties, songs like 'Dancin', Dancin', Dancin'' and 'Smooth Talk' remain part of her catalog from those RCA years.
