Evento Cultural e Povos formed in Salvador, Brazil in 1999. The group's founding members came from different backgrounds but shared an interest in Bahian traditions. Their debut album 'Lindo Céu' came out in 2003.

Maciel Salu sings lead vocals and writes lyrics for the band. Percussionist Mateus Aleluia and guitarist Luisinho Azevedo have been part of the lineup. They've released several albums including 'Quilombo' in 2006, 'Bahia Black' in 2009, and 'Ubuntu' in 2015.

The music draws from Afro-Brazilian rhythms while incorporating other influences. They've worked with musicians from different countries and participated in community programs.
