Everaldo Gretter

Everaldo Gretter came from Descanso, a small town in Brazil, and grew up in a Catholic family. He sang in the local church choir as a child, and the traditional folk and religious music of his region shaped his early sound. He started writing his own songs about faith and daily life, which eventually led to his breakout track "Lá Vem Jesus."

Gretter's lyrics sometimes touched on social and religious topics that drew criticism from more conservative listeners. He kept writing anyway, putting out music for about twenty years. Besides "Lá Vem Jesus," songs like "Luz e Treva" and "O bom Lavrador" stayed in his setlists.

His recordings mixed Brazilian rhythms with straightforward melodies and lyrics that aimed to be accessible. He worked with a regular band, and while he wasn't a constant chart presence, he maintained a following through live shows and a steady stream of albums.
