Evil Empire came out of New York City's underground in the late 1980s. The early lineup included vocalist Alex Von Reich, guitarists John DeServio and Rob Springer, bassist George Lynch, and drummer Paul Bostaph. They put out their first album, 'Apocalypse,' in 1991.
Their 1993 album 'Black Order of Fire' gave the band its title track, which became one of their most recognized songs. Other tracks like 'Infernal Feast' and 'When Forever Ends' show the kind of blackened thrash they were known for. The band's lineup changed over time, with Von Reich staying constant while members like Springer and Bostaph moved on to other projects.
They kept releasing albums through the 1990s, including 'Requiem for the Dead' in 1995 and 'Dominion' in 1997. Their music drew some criticism for its dark themes, but they maintained a following in metal circles.
