Excessum

Excessum formed in Austria in 2007 with David Hofer on vocals, Andreas Maierhofer and Philipp Eder on guitars, David Wimhofer on bass, and Patrick Perger on drums. They released their debut album 'In the Shadow of Death' in 2009, which established their melodic death metal sound. Their second album 'Bleed Eternally' followed, featuring the title track that would become one of their most recognized songs.

Their music often explores themes of despair and existential struggle, with songs like 'Death Redemption' and 'The Mournful Held Within' reflecting this darker lyrical territory. The band has cited influences ranging from Iron Maiden to In Flames and Dimmu Borgir, though they've developed their own approach within the melodic death metal framework.

After their early releases, Excessum continued with albums like 'Saviour of the Damned' in 2012, 'The Awakening' in 2015, and 'Into the Void' in 2019. Tracks such as 'Generation of Lies' and 'Ritual Through Holy Blood' show their consistent focus on atmospheric, emotionally charged metal. They've maintained a core lineup with Hofer's vocals and Maierhofer's guitar work remaining central to their sound.
