Expresso Band Show formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1970 with Léo Jaime on vocals and guitar, Hélio Delmiro on vocals and keyboards, José Carlos Gaspari on bass, and Alexandre Ligieri on drums. They mixed samba with funk and soul, and their 1973 song 'Ta Maluca' became a Brazilian classic.
Their lyrics sometimes criticized Brazil's military government, which led to censorship and official pressure.
They released albums including their self-titled debut in 1970, 'Caia no Samba' in 1972, and the 'Ta Maluca' album in 1973. Their sound fit into what was called MPB, or Brazilian Popular Music, at the time.
