Fábulas Áticas formed in Mexico City in the late 1980s around vocalist and guitarist Carlos Méndez, bassist Iván Coyote, and keyboardist Jorge Cosío. Their music drew from progressive rock and literary influences, creating a sound that felt both structured and dreamlike. They released their first album, Espejo Metálico, in 1992, followed by La Tierra del Fuego in 1994 and El Techo de las Golondrinas in 1998.
Their song "Alicia" became something of a signature piece, with lyrics that referenced Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.
Over time, other musicians joined the group, including drummer Alex Otaola, violinist Guillermina Echeverría, and cellist Jenny Beaujean. They put out another studio album, El Viaje Eterno, in 2012. Another track, "Sin Tocarte," also appears among their better-known songs.
