Facedown formed in Omaha, Nebraska in 1994 with Matt Brubaker on vocals, Trenton Cooper and Chad Ackerman on guitars, Jason Asberry on bass, and Chris DeWitt on drums. They released their self-titled debut album in 1997 after building a local following through steady touring. The band's 2000 album 'Requiem of the Forgotten Past' included the track 'Autumn Scars' that would later become one of their better-known songs.
Over the next decade and a half, Facedown released albums roughly every two to three years, including 'Fractured' in 2002, 'Our Own Hell' in 2004, and 'Death's Grip on Life' in 2006. Their 2014 album was actually titled 'Autumn Scars,' sharing its name with that earlier track. Other songs in their catalog include 'Top Of The World,' 'Bed Of Roaches,' and 'Slender Messiah.'
The lineup saw some changes over time, with Asberry leaving in 2006 and being replaced by David Prater on bass. DeWitt departed in 2011, with Corbin Raines taking over on drums. Brubaker, Cooper, and Ackerman remained consistent members throughout the band's run. Their lyrics often touched on themes of personal struggle and faith, which sometimes drew criticism from listeners who found them too direct in their spiritual perspective.
