Facing New York

Facing New York was an alternative band from New York City led by vocalist Elyse Rogers. Their sound mixed post-punk and dream pop with Rogers's distinctive voice floating over guitar work from Christopher Brown and rhythm from Evan Mast on drums and James Espy on bass.

Their debut album was called "A Tempest, A Dance," which gave a good sense of their early energy. They followed it with "The Great Dismal," then later records like "Ultrasound" and "Hymns for the Hollow" that brought in more electronic and ambient textures.

Songs like "Apple Sugar Cider," "Butterfly Clock," and "Cutting My Hair" show the band's range, from driving rhythms to more atmospheric moments. Their lyrics often dealt with personal and social themes, which sometimes put them at odds with more mainstream tastes.
